6300 scholarship to enrich mathematics among students

Bhubaneswar, In a bid to develop talent in mathematics among the students, the Orissa government today decided to introduce scholarship after the name of eminent astrologer Pathani Samanta from this year.

A high level meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik decided to award the scholarship to 6,300 students every month right from class six to 12.

Official sources here said the students for the scholarship would be selected through examinations conducted in class six, nine and 12.

The students studying in government and government-aided schools would be eligible to participate in the examination to avail the scholarship.

A scholarship of Rs 200 per month would be given to selected students from class six to eight, Rs 300 to students of class nine and ten and Rs 500 would be given to students of class eleven and twelve.

The money would be deposited in the bank accounts of the students every month through electronic transfer system.

The scheme would be jointly implemented by the School and Mass Education, Higher Education and the Institute of Mathematics.

In addition to it special mathematic coaching would be imparted to the successful candidates during the summer, dussehra and winter vacations.

Under the scheme as many 710 mathematic teachers of the state would be given special training by the Institute of the Mathematics.
